Why was ETREC established?
Seventy percent of businesses in the electrical, telecommunications and renewable energy industry are small to medium enterprises. Research indicates that these contractors want relevant advice, benefits and services from an organisation dedicated to meeting their needs.
A detailed survey carried out by the Workplace Studies Center at Victoria University recognised that a new organisation, separate from the union, would be required to achieve this outcome. For this reason the ETU supported the establishment of ETREC as an independent and not for profit organisation specifically designed to provide services, benefits and a voice for small and medium contractors.
ETREC will strengthen the electrical telecommunications and renewable energy industry and foster cooperation between contractors, unions, governments and relevant industry groups.
